Taylor accepts suspension for role in campus fight

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- Penn State's judicial affairs office
has suspended defensive tackle Phil Taylor for much of the summer as
part of sanctions for his role in a fight last fall.

Taylor recently accepted the sanctions, according to the university.

Taylor is barred from campus this summer through Aug. 15, including classes and
extracurricular activities. He was allowed to finish spring semester classes.

Taylor was suspended from the football team in February. He
would miss about a week of preseason practice if coach Joe Paterno
allows him back on the squad.

Police have charged Taylor with simple assault and other charges
stemming from a fight on campus last October in which authorities
said Taylor and two other former players beat up a man during a dance.

A felony aggravated assault charge against Taylor was dismissed during a preliminary hearing last month.
