NEW YORK -- The New York Liberty have suspended Janel McCarville for the season because she didn't join the team for training camp.

The 6-foot-2 center averaged 11.2 points and 5.4 rebounds in four seasons with the Liberty.

"As per WNBA rules, Janel McCarville has been suspended from the Liberty for the remainder of the season following her failure to report to the team for training camp," Liberty coach and general manager John Whisenant said in a statement. "We continue to believe that this current group of players is ready to compete for a WNBA championship this season."

New York opens the WNBA's 15th season at Atlanta on Sunday.
