The New York Islanders signed a pair of defensemen Friday in Mark Eaton and Milan Jurcina. Both were unrestricted free agents.

Eaton signed a $5 million, two-year deal, a source told, while Jurcina signed for one year, $1 million, the same source said.

Eaton, 33, had 16 points (3-13) and a plus-5 rating in 79 games with the Pittsburgh Penguins last season. He was squeezed out of Pittsburgh after the Penguins signed blue-liners Paul Martin and Zbynek Michalek on Thursday.

Jurcina, 27, had seven points (1-6) and a plus-2 rating in 44 games with the Washington Capitals and Columbus Blue Jackets last season.

In other moves Friday, the Islanders also signed tough guy Zenon Konopka and forward P.A. Parenteau.
