The New Jersey Devils' road back from the bottom took another bump Saturday when the team announced veteran star goalie Martin Brodeur would be out up to two weeks with an elbow injury.

An MRI exam on Brodeur's bruised right elbow was negative, the team said.

Brodeur's elbow was injured by Chicago Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane's shot Nov. 3.

Brodeur took himself out after the second period of Thursday's 3-1 loss at Toronto.

He was examined Friday by the team's doctors, as well as Dr. Steve Beldner, who had operated two years ago on Brodeur's torn left biceps tendon.

"There is nothing structurally [damaged] there," Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello said Saturday, according to The Newark Star-Ledger.

Mike McKenna, called up on an emergency basis from AHL Albany, will start Saturday night's game in St. Louis, his hometown. NHL writer Pierre LeBrun contributed to this report.
