Big sporting events don't always translate into big money for local economy

Hey, New York, watch out what you ask for!

Boosters claim that if the New York Giants and New York Jets Jets win the right to host the 2014 Super Bowl, the big game will inject $550 million into the local economy.

But independent economists who examine these kinds of estimates almost always find them to be massively overstated.
