Derek Jeter nine hits away from 3,000

NEW YORK -- New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter is nine hits away from becoming the 28th member of baseball's 3,000-hit club.

Jeter recorded hit No. 2,991 -- a line-drive double to right field off Cleveland Indians right-hander Chad Durbin -- in the bottom of the seventh inning on Friday night at Yankee Stadium.
