Week 11: Injury updates
Here is the latest news on key injuries for Week 11:
Arizona Cardinals
Two cornerbacks are questionable for Sunday's game against the Seahawks. Eric Green is probably the more questionable of the two. He has a sore knee and missed last week's game. Cornerback Roderick Hood has sore ribs but did practice some this week even though he's in a lot of pain.
Atlanta Falcons
Defensive end John Abraham will be able to play despite a sore neck from last Sunday's game. He's listed as probable. Left tackle Sam Baker is out because of back surgery. Defensive tackle Kindal Moorehead is doubtful with a foot injury. Another question mark is cornerback Brent Grimes, who has been slowed for weeks by knee and ankle problems. The team lists defensive tackle Grady Jackson (knee) and kicker Jason Elam (left hip) as questionable, but they will play. Todd Weiner is probable because of a sore knee but will start at left tackle.
Baltimore Ravens
John Harbaugh was reasonably optimistic about six Ravens who are questionable for Sunday's game against the Giants. Wide receiver Derrick Mason, wearing a harness, was able to do a little work Friday despite a slight shoulder separation. After practice, his shoulder was reasonably loose, and he said he would play. Safety Ed Reed (thigh), cornerback Samari Rolle (neck), tight end Daniel Wilcox (thigh) and safety Tom Zbikowski (thigh) all are hopeful that they will be able to play. The most questionable of the six is right tackle Willie Anderson, who has an ankle injury, but even he said he has a decent chance of playing. The only player ruled out is wide receiver Terrance Copper, who has a shoulder injury.
Buffalo Bills
Safety Donte Whitner continues to practice and appears to be ready to play Monday night against the Browns. He missed last week's game with a shoulder injury and was supposed to miss a couple of weeks. Whitner has come back quickly but the team tried to make sure in practice he didn't get the shoulder banged up. Tight end Robert Royal (ankle) and wide receiver James Hardy (hip) continue to practice and should be fine for the game. Being cautious, though, Dick Jauron is listing Whitner, Hardy and Royal as questionable. The only players who will miss the Monday night game are wide receiver Josh Reed (ankle) and defensive end Aaron Schobel (foot). Schobel has been ruled out. Reed is listed as doubtful but hasn't practiced in weeks. Right guard Brad Butler returns after missing three games with a sprained MCL. He's listed as probable.
Carolina Panthers
The Panthers have a short injury report for Sunday's game against the Lions. Center Ryan Kalil is doubtful with ankle injury and is expected to miss the game. He sat out Friday's practice. Defensive tackle Darwin Walker, who suffered a neck injury in a car accident a couple of weeks ago, is questionable. He did some work in Friday's practice. Halfback Jonathan Stewart had a full week of practice and enters Sunday with no questions about his status as DeAngelo Williams' backup.
Chicago Bears
The Bears list quarterback Kyle Orton as probable with a right ankle sprain, meaning he should be able to start for the Bears against the Packers on Sunday. Orton missed last week's game against the Titans but was in uniform as the third quarterback. Cornerback Charles Tillman also will be able to play despite a shoulder injury. He's listed as probable. Linebacker Hunter Hillenmeyer had a full practice Friday and is probable with a thumb injury. Tackle Fred Miller is doubtful with a shoulder injury.
Cincinnati Bengals
Defensive end Antwan Odom missed Friday's practice with a shoulder injury and is expected to miss Sunday's game against the Eagles. The team lists him as doubtful. He'll join quarterback Carson Palmer on the sideline. Palmer is recovering from the inflammation in his right elbow. Frostee Rucker is expected to start for Odom. Halfback Cedric Benson had a full practice and should be fine for Sunday's game. He missed Thursday's practice with a sore back. Right tackle Stacy Andrews (illness), linebacker Rashad Jeanty (foot), defensive tackle Pat Sims (knee) and safety Chinedum Ndukwe (foot) practiced Friday and are probable. Listed as doubtful are wide receivers Andre Caldwell (foot) and Jerome Simpson (foot) and linebacker Eric Henderson (neck).
Cleveland Browns
Nose tackle Shaun Rogers (stinger) and guard Eric Steinbach (ribs) practiced Friday, but they are listed questionable for the Monday night game in Buffalo. Also listed as questionable are tight ends Darnell Dinkins (ribs) and Steve Heiden (back) and defensive end Corey Williams (shoulder). They also had some practice time Friday and have a chance to play. Halfback Jamal Lewis and cornerback Eric Wright missed Friday's practice but will play. They are probable. Fullback Lawrence Vickers is doubtful with an ankle injury.
Dallas Cowboys
The bye week allowed the Cowboys' offense to get a lot healthier. Tony Romo is back as the starting quarterback after missing three games with a broken pinkie. Guard Kyle Kosier is back from a foot injury that sidelined him for more than a month. Tight end Jason Witten has been practicing and playing despite a fractured rib. The only offensive player who didn't make it back is halfback Felix Jones, who hasn't healed from a hamstring tear. Wade Phillips ruled him out of the Redskins game after he didn't practice Friday. Wide receiver Isaiah Stanback's shoulder popped out in practice, and he was ruled out. Linebacker Bobby Carpenter has a groin injury, and he's listed as out.
Denver Broncos
Champ Bailey is officially listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Falcons, and he has a chance of playing. He is doing everything possible to come back early from a hamstring injury. He had limited practice Friday. The team won't know until game time. Linebackers Nate Webster (knee) and D.J. Williams (knee) and safety Marlon McCree (ankle) will miss the game against the Falcons. The Broncos also don't think halfback Selvin Young will play because of a groin injury. He's listed as doubtful. Tight end Tony Scheffler practiced and will be able to play despite a groin injury.
Detroit Lions
The Lions could be down seven injured players for Sunday. The defense is expected to be down three starters, including both starting defensive ends. Defensive ends Jared DeVries (hand) and Dewayne White (calf) and safety Dwight Smith (foot) haven't practiced all week and were ruled out of the Panthers game. Cornerback Keith Smith is out with a groin injury. On offense, center Dominic Raiola (broken hand) and quarterback Dan Orlovsky (right hand) are out, although the Lions list Orlovsky as doubtful. Wide receiver Mike Furrey is doubtful with a concussion. Tight end John Owens should be available despite a hamstring injury. Linebacker Ernie Sims (shoulder) and defensive tackle Cory Redding (groin) should be fine.
Green Bay Packers
Defensive tackle Justin Harrell sprained a knee during Thursday's practice and is questionable for Sunday's game against the Bears. Coach Mike McCarthy said that he believes Harrell should be able to play but that he won't know better until Saturday. Linebacker Nick Barnett is out with a season-ending knee injury. Cornerback Will Blackmon should be able to play despite a quad injury. The team also hopes to have defensive end Jeremy Thompson, who has missed practice time with a groin injury, but he's listed as doubtful. Cornerback Jarrett Bush is questionable with an ankle injury but had a full practice Friday, so he should be able to play.
Houston Texans
The Texans are expected to be down four players Sunday against the Colts. Quarterback Matt Schaub is out with a knee injury. Linebacker Morlon Greenwood (fibula), defensive tackle Amobi Okoye (ankle) and wide receiver Andre Davis (finger) are doubtful. They didn't practice Friday, and all are expected to play.
Indianapolis Colts
Tony Dungy said Friday that he expects wide receivers Reggie Wayne (ankle) and Anthony Gonzalez (hamstring) to be able to play Sunday against the Texans. Cornerback Kelvin Hayden (hamstring) and wide receiver Roy Hall (knee) are expected to be out. Defensive end Robert Smith has missed practice all week but expects to be ready for Sunday. Safety Antoine Bethea should able to be to play despite a sore ankle that causes him to be listed as questionable. Tight end Tom Santi is questionable with a shoulder injury. Officially, the Colts listed 10 players as questionable, including safety Bob Sanders, who rests on Friday practices but will play. Defensive tackle Daniel Muir (hamstring) and Keiwan Ratliff (quad) are on the report as questionable, but they should be available.
Jacksonville Jaguars
The Jaguars ruled out defensive tackle John Henderson (knee) and wide receiver Troy Williamson (groin), and they may not have wide receiver Matt Jones (thigh). Jones didn't practice Friday and has a decent chance of missing the game against the Titans. Fullback Greg Jones is also questionable. He has an ankle injury. The Jaguars should have cornerback Rashean Mathis (foot), defensive end Paul Spicer (thigh) and halfback Fred Taylor (neck). They practiced Friday and are probable.
Kansas City Chiefs
The Chiefs list defensive end Tamba Hali (ankle), linebacker Derrick Johnson (thigh), linebacker Pat Thomas (thigh) and guard Adrian Jones (ankle), but Herm Edwards has said all week that those four players probably won't play. Expect them to be out. It will be game-time decisions for cornerbacks Brandon Flowers (thigh) and Patrick Surtain (groin). They did some work in practice on Friday and have a chance to play. They are listed as questionable. Running back Jamaal Charles (ankle) and safety Jarrad Page (groin) are probable and will play.
Miami Dolphins
The Dolphins listed guard Matt McChesney as questionable with a knee injury. He's the only player listed for the Dolphins.
Minnesota Vikings
Safety Madieu Williams is listed as doubtful for Sunday's game against the Bucs. He injured his shoulder on a special-teams play in practice during the week. Brad Childress didn't rule him out, but it's unlikely he will play. Defensive end Jared Allen will also play despite a third-degree separation of a shoulder. Allen played last week against the Packers. Allen is listed as questionable, but he will play and start.
New Orleans Saints
Halfback Reggie Bush will miss Sunday's game against the Chiefs. He hasn't practiced the past two days, and coach Sean Payton ruled him out Friday. Also ruled out were fullback Mike Karney (knee), cornerback Aaron Glenn (ankle), center Jonathan Goodwin (knee) and defensive tackle Brian Young (knee). The team had hoped Bush would be back this week. Tackle Jon Stinchcomb (calf) and wide receiver Marques Colston (knee) are probable and will play.
New York Giants
Tom Coughlin will have four key game-day decisions on injuries. Safety James Butler (knee) and cornerbacks Corey Webster (groin) and Kevin Dockery (back) are questionable for the Ravens game, and all three are 50-50 as to whether they will be able to play. Linebacker Jonathan Goff is also questionable and will be a game-time decision. Linebacker Gerris Wilkinson (knee) is out. Running back Reuben Droughns is probable with a neck injury and will be available.
Oakland Raiders
Quarterback JaMarcus Russell (knee) and halfback Darren McFadden (toes) have had a good week of practice and will be back for the Raiders for their game against the Dolphins. McFadden is wearing new shoes to protect his toes. He was running and cutting without pain and seemed pretty optimistic about his chances. Coach Tom Cable said McFadden is ready to go. Russell has had a full week of practice after sitting out last week's game against the Panthers with a knee injury. He'll start. Wide receiver Javon Walker (ankle surgery), center Jake Grove (calf) and linebacker Ricky Brown (groin) are expected to miss the game. Walker is out for the season. Quarterback Andrew Walter missed practices early in the week and was limited Friday. His status as Russell's backup is in question. Defensive end Derrick Burgess has been in and out of practice all week trying to come back from a triceps injury. Burgess didn't practice Friday and isn't expected to play. Walker and Grove are officially out. Burgess and Brown are doubtful. McFadden, Russell, wide receiver Chaz Schilens (ankle) and Walter are listed as questionable.
Philadelphia Eagles
Other than guard Shawn Andrews, who remains out following back surgery, the Eagles are healthy heading into Sunday's game against the Bengals. Cornerback Asante Samuel had a full practice Friday after missing Thursday with a sore hip. He's probable and will start. Running back Brian Westbrook did only limited work Friday, but he's probable and will start. Westbrook is bothered by a sore knee.
Pittsburgh Steelers
On the positive front, quarterback Ben Roethlisberger had a good week of throwing in practice despite a slight right-shoulder separation and will start against the Chargers. Halfback Willie Parker will play after missing last week with a shoulder injury. Linebacker LaMarr Woodley is back after missing a game with a calf injury. On the negative side, the Steelers ruled out cornerbacks Bryant McFadden (broken forearm) and Deshea Townsend (hamstring), tight end Heath Miller (ankle) and left tackle Marvel Smith (back). Halfback Gary Russell should be available despite a quad injury
San Diego Chargers
The Chargers ruled out cornerback Cletis Gordon (knee) and wide receiver Buster Davis (groin). Linebacker Marques Harris was limited in Friday's practice and is questionable with a hamstring problem. Cornerback Steve Gregory had a full practice Friday but is listed as questionable with a neck injury.
San Francisco 49ers
Halfback Frank Gore will be able to play despite a neck injury that has bothered him all week. He had a full practice Friday and is probable. Ruled out of the game are safety Dashon Goldson (knee) and wide receivers Arnaz Battle (foot) and Josh Morgan (groin). Tackle Barry Sims (ankle) and tight end Delanie Walker (shoulder) are doubtful and not expected to play. Safety Mark Roman is questionable with a groin injury.
Seattle Seahawks
Mike Holmgren officially announced that Matt Hasselbeck and wide receiver Deion Branch will start for Sunday's game against the Cardinals. Defensive end Patrick Kerney (shoulder), linebacker David Hawthorne (calf) and defensive tackle Red Bryant (ankle) are expected to miss the game. Holmgren isn't sure who will be the backup quarterback. Seneca Wallace returned to practice Friday, but he might not be able to be the backup because of a groin injury. If Wallace can't go, Charlie Frye will be the backup. Fullback Leonard Weaver will be a game-time decision. He has problems with his ribs but he did return to practice Friday, giving him a chance. Wide receiver Koren Robinson will play despite a sore knee. The team might have tight end Will Heller back after he missed several weeks with a knee injury.
St. Louis Rams
Steven Jackson's thigh injury remains so bad that he isn't even making the trip to San Francisco. On Thursday, Jim Haslett said it was doubtful Jackson would play, and Jackson couldn't practice Friday. The team decided it was better to leave him behind and let him receive treatment over the weekend. The Rams also will be without cornerback Tye Hill (knee), linebacker Chris Draft (foot) and defensive end Eric Moore (spine). Wide receiver Derek Stanley will be able to play despite an ankle injury. Rookie tackle John Greco tried to practice a little Friday despite a knee injury. He may not be available.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The return of running back Carnell Williams from the physically unable to perform list really turned out to be timely, but may not be helpful. Williams may not be able to play this week, and the team has other problems with injuries in the backfield. Running back Earnest Graham is questionable with a knee injury. He has been limited all week and the team won't know until game time whether he will be able to play. Running back Warrick Dunn is also listed as questionable but he practiced all week. He should be able to play. Tight end Alex Smith is doubtful with a knee injury. Quarterback Brian Griese is doubtful with a right elbow injury. Safety Jermaine Phillips is out with a broken forearm. The team could have the return of fullback B.J. Askew, who has practiced all week but is listed as questionable.
Tennessee Titans
The Titans ruled out defensive tackle Jason Jones because of a foot injury, and they probably won't have defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch. Vanden Bosch did some running on the side, but he hasn't practiced in the past couple of weeks. Vanden Bosch is officially listed as questionable. Don't expect him to play, but he has a better chance of playing next week against the Jets. Wide receiver Justin McCareins hasn't been cleared to practice or play because of a concussion. He's questionable. Linebacker Keith Bulluck did the same procedure as last week. He didn't practice all week because of a rib injury. Last week he played and was sore. The team lists him as questionable, but don't rule him out. Guard Eugene Amano (knee), running back Ahmard Hall (concussion) and cornerback Nick Harper (ankle) are probable and will play.
Washington Redskins
Halfback Clinton Portis missed his third consecutive day of practice and has been all but ruled out of Sunday's game against the Cowboys. Portis told reporters he was feeling better, but he has until Sunday to make a decision. He has a second-degree sprain of the medial collateral knee ligament, an injury that takes two to four weeks to heal. Portis had the bye week to get one week of rest and rehab, but the knee hasn't been healthy enough to do any practice this week, which is obviously a bad sign. Ladell Betts is expected to start, and Shaun Alexander is expected to also get some of the running action. Cornerback Shawn Springs (calf) and linebacker Marcus Washington (shoulder) are big question marks. Jim Zorn thought there was a decent chance Springs would play, but Springs was more reserved in his judgment. Early in the week, Springs didn't think he had a chance of playing. Zorn said Washington has less than a 50 percent chance of playing. Defensive tackle Anthony Montgomery will miss the game with a sore Achilles. Guard Pete Kendall (knee) is probable and will play.
