Niners' Adams fined $5K for hit on Chargers' Rivers

San Francisco 49ers defensive tackle Anthony Adams has been fined $5,000 by the NFL for a late hit on San Diego quarterback Philip Rivers in last Sunday's 48-19 loss to the Chargers.


It is the first fine levied against a San Francisco player this season and believed to be the first time that Adams, a fourth-year veteran, has drawn any kind of league sanction. The fine is the latest by the NFL in the league's increasing efforts to protect quarterbacks.
