Injured Byrd drafted in seventh round
Byrd was upgraded to good condition on Friday, five days after he was admitted to a Miami hospital in critical condition. Byrd's agent told ESPN's Joe Schad that Byrd was expected to recover fully, was moving around and talking, and that he had been moved out of intensive care. Byrd was being evaluated for a head injury.
The accident occurred last Sunday when a tire blew out and Byrd's car hit a utility pole.
Last season at LSU, the 6-foot-2, 195-pound receiver had 37 catches for 513 yards and four touchdowns. Byrd played high school ball at Miami Central High and was rated by Scouts Inc. as the No. 13 wide receiver in the draft. His selection came in the seventh and last round of the draft.
