J.J. Watt is football's real-life action hero

Defensive linemen normally don't make TV cameos, appear in movies or get their own commercials. Except now, there's Watt -- selected as the best player in the NFL and the league's biggest reality TV star.

Why an undefeated preseason matters for the Chiefs

Kansas City is 3-0 this preseason heading into Thursday night's game at St. Louis. Teams that finish the preseason without a loss generally don't fare much better than those that go winless. But the Chiefs are a different matter.

Key points from Tom Brady ruling

  • The court found that Brady had no notice that he could receive a four-game suspension for general awareness of ball deflation by others

Schefter: Bad two years for the NFL

Adam Schefter on SportsCenter: "From the league office perspective, last year went as bad as it could. This season is about to kick off and this is a damning decision. This is a slap in the face of the NFL."

Robert Kraft's statement referencing "lawyers at league" a direct salvo at general counsel Jeff Pash and Gregg Levy.

Robert Kraft on Tom Brady ruling

The Patriots owner released a statement that said: "As I have said during this process and throughout his Patriots career, Tom Brady is a classy person of the highest integrity. He represents everything that is great about this game and this league. Yet, with absolutely no evidence of any actions of wrongdoing by Tom in the Wells report, the lawyers at the league still insisted on imposing and defending unwarranted and unprecedented discipline. Judge Richard Berman understood this and we are greatly appreciative of his thoughtful decision that was delivered today. Now, we can return our focus to the game on the field."

'Elation, vindication and relief'

ESPN's Mike Reiss said three words sum up the feelings at Gillette Stadium after Tom Brady's four-game suspension was overturned: "Elation, vindication and relief." He also reports Brady may play a snap in tonight's preseason game as a symbolic gesture. Live on ESPNews, WatchESPN

Is the offense holding the Chiefs back?

ESPN's Mark Schlereth says Kansas City's biggest weakness is that they can't stretch the field. The team had only four plays of more than 35 yards in 2014, the lowest in the NFL.

Roger Goodell statement on Brady ruling

"We are grateful to Judge Berman for hearing this matter, but respectfully disagree with today's decision. We will appeal today's ruling in order to uphold the collectively bargained responsibility to protect the integrity of the game. The commissioner's responsibility to secure the competitive fairness of our game is a paramount principle, and the league and our 32 clubs will continue to pursue a path to that end. While the legal phase of this process continues, we look forward to focusing on football and the opening of the regular season. "

NFL opener still missing key players

The Sep. 10 game between the Steelers and Patriots still will be lacking some star power. Le’Veon Bell and LeGarrette Blount will miss the game after substance-abuse suspensions dating back to an incident together in the 2014 preseason. Steelers WR Martavis Bryant has been suspended four games as well, but is currently appealing that decision.
