Rookie Hamdan is backup
With Patrick Ramsey forced to rest an injured foot, Hasselbeck will become the 15th quarterback to start a game for the Redskins in the last 11 seasons. His backup will be rookie Gibran Hamdan, who was promoted from the practice squad Friday.
"It looks like Tim Hasselbeck and Gibran Hamdan will be our two guys this week," Spurrier said. "It's pretty much official that's the way we're going to go."
Ramsey has not practiced this week because of a flare-up of a broken bone in his right foot. He has been fitted with a cast that he will wear throughout the weekend.
"That's the idea behind it: Let it rest and hopefully I'll be back next week," Ramsey said. "I think I've reached a point with this injury where I'd be hindering us more than helping us."
Hasselbeck threw for 150 yards last Sunday in the Redskins' loss to Miami, entering the game after Ramsey left with a concussion in the first quarter.
Hamdan was the Redskins' seventh-round draft pick out of Indiana, where he passed for 2,115 yards and nine touchdowns in his senior year.
The Redskins made room for Hamdan on the roster by waiving running back John Simon.
