New England Patriots: The defending Super Bowl champions grabbed their second former Bengal in as many days by reaching a one-year, $785,000 deal with cornerback Jeff Burris. Included in the deal is a $25,000 signing bonus.

On Monday, the Patriots traded for Cincinnati running back Corey Dillon.

Burris was released by the Bengals at the start of free agency. The Patriots ratcheted up talks with him last week.

Burris, 31, is joining his fourth team. He has been with the Bills, Colts and Bengals.

Indianapolis Colts: Offensive tackle Ryan Diem and guard Rick DeMulling re-signed with the team. Each got a one-year deal worth $1.368 million.

Diem, a fourth-round pick out of Northern Illinois in 2001, started eight of 15 games as a rookie and all 16 games in 2002 at right guard. He moved to right tackle last season and started 13 of 16 games.

DeMulling, a seventh-round selection from Idaho in 2001, started 14 games in 2002 and all 16 regular-season games and three playoff games last season at left guard. He signed the offer with the Colts last week, but the team did not announce the signing until Tuesday.

Miami Dolphins: The Dolphins re-signed backup quarterback Sage Rosenfels to a one-year contract Tuesday.

Rosenfels is third on the depth chart behind incumbent Jay Fiedler and newcomer A.J. Feeley and ahead of Clint Stoerner. A three-year NFL veteran, Rosenfels saw action in just two games last season, completing 4 of 6 passes for 50 yards and one touchdown.

He was acquired in 2002 from Washington in exchange for a 2003 seventh-round draft choice.

Denver Broncos: Linebacker John Mobley went on trial Tuesday on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol.

Mobley was arrested on Dec. 28, 2002, after a roadside sobriety test. Police in Parker said he had been driving 69 mph in a 40 mph zone.

A judge on Monday refused to dismiss the charge or delay the trial after the defense challenged Mobley's blood tests.

In 1999, Mobley was charged with DUI after a car wreck near his home. He pleaded guilty to lesser charges of driving while impaired, driving without a license and careless driving.

He was sentenced to one year's probation and ordered to complete 24 hours of community service.

Green Bay Packers: The Packers re-signed tight end David Martin on Tuesday to a restricted free-agent tender and waived punter Travis Hale.

Martin, a backup tight end, played behind Pro Bowler Bubba Franks and Wesley Walls, and on special teams. He played in all 16 games for the first time as a pro, making three starts as a second tight end. He also played in both the Packers' playoff games, including a start in the wild-card win over Seattle.

The 6-foot-4, 260-pound Martin matched his career high with 13 receptions last season.

Hale originally signed as a free agent March 22.

The Packers are left with two restricted free agents: cornerback/safety Bhawoh Jue and linebacker Torrance Marshall, neither of whom received offers from other teams during the NFL's signing period that ended Friday.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Linebacker Edward Thomas signed a contract.

Thomas joins his third NFL team after not playing in the league last season. He was with the San Francisco 49ers and Jacksonville Jaguars in 2000, appearing in four games for each club.

He played in 16 games with four starts for the Jaguars in 2001. He played in four games before being released in 2002.

Thomas originally entered the NFL after spending three seasons in the CFL with the Montreal Alouettes.
