Rams 16, 49ers 6

Recap | Boxscore

IT WAS OVER WHEN... GAME BALL GOES TO...
Jeff Wilkins booted a 52-yard field goal in the fourth quarter to put the Rams up by 10. That was more than enough. Steven Jackson. Torry Holt had a big game (10 catches for 160 yards and one TD), but Jackson gets the nod, rushing for 119 yards and one TD on 26 carries.

ERIC ALLEN'S ANALYSIS: This win is indicative of the Rams play. They are just good enough to beat some very good teams, but are inconsistent in enough key areas that they will occasionally struggle against teams they should beat on paper.

UP NEXT: Rams (6-6) at Panthers (5-7) | 49ers (1-11) at Cardinals (4-8)

Bills 42, Dolphins 32

Recap | Boxscore

IT WAS OVER WHEN... GAME BALL GOES TO...
DT Pat Williams picked off an A.J. Feeley pass and rumbled 20 yards for a TD to put the Bills up 42-32 with just under two minutes left. Drew Bledsoe. Completed 19 of 30 passes for 277 yards and four TDs.
ERIC ALLEN'S ANALYSIS: Mike Mularkey has an offensive philosophy that he wants to get out there, but like all coaches he needs the right players to institute that philosophy. He's only recently gotten a solid running game, which was lacking in the beginning of the season. That running game has enabled the rest of his offense to start to play well as the Bills have been able to do a much better job with play action against defenses focused on stopping the run

UP NEXT: Bills (6-6) vs. Browns (3-9) | Dolphins (2-10) at Broncos (7-5)

Panthers 32, Saints 21

Recap | Boxscore

IT WAS OVER WHEN... GAME BALL GOES TO...
In the first half, with the Panthers building a 26-7 halftime lead. New Orleans scored some points in the second half, but they were already out of it. Muhsin Muhammad. Caught 10 passes for 179 yards and one TD. It was his fourth 100-yard game in Carolina's last five.
ERIC ALLEN'S ANALYSIS: We tend to give too much credit and blame to coaches and quarterbacks and this is another example of that fact. Coach Fox has consistently done a great job with this team despite their early season troubles. This team resembles his personality with their never say die attitude.

UP NEXT: Panthers (5-7) vs. Rams (6-6) | Saints (4-8) at Cowboys (4-7)

Jets 29, Texans 7

Recap | Boxscore

IT WAS OVER WHEN... GAME BALL GOES TO...
Chad Pennington hit Anthony Becht for a two-yard TD to put the Jets up 26-7 with just over nine minutes left in the game. Curtis Martin. Rushed for 134 yards and one TD on 23 carries, going over the 1,300-yard mark for the season. He needs just 26 yards to reach 13,000 career rushing yards.
ERIC ALLEN'S ANALYSIS: The key to the Jets' success has been the excellent play of their corps of linebackers. This team made the right move by going younger and faster in the offseason and it has paid off.

UP NEXT: Texans (5-7) vs. Colts (9-3) | Jets (9-3) at Steelers

Bucs 27, Falcons 0

Recap | Boxscore

IT WAS OVER WHEN... GAME BALL GOES TO...
Michael Vick's pass on 4th-and-two at the Bucs 20-yard line was incomplete in the fourth quarter with under 10 minutes left and the Falcons trailing 20-0. Bucs defense. Pitched a shutout against Vick, sacking the elusive QB five times and picking off three passes. Two of the INTs came in the end zone after the Falcons had taken the ball all the way to the Bucs' 1-yard line.
ERIC ALLEN'S ANALYSIS: The Bucs are successful because they have exceptional speed throughout the defense and because they have defensive end Simeon Rice. His contribution to their scheme on Michael Vick shouldn't be unnoticed. He does an amazing job of getting upfield and keeping the edge closed off while also closing the gap between the tackle and the quarterback.

UP NEXT: Falcons (9-3) vs. Raiders (4-8) | Bucs (5-7) at Chargers (9-3)

Bengals 27, Ravens 26

Recap | Boxscore

IT WAS OVER WHEN... GAME BALL GOES TO...
Shayne Graham booted a 24-yard field goal for the win as time expired. Carson Palmer hit Chad Johnson on a 22-yard completion to put the Bengals well within field-goal range. Palmer. Johnson (10 catches for 161 yards and two TDs) and T.J. Houshmandzadeh (10 catches for 171 yards and one TD) were huge, but so was Palmer, who completed 29 of 36 passes for 382 yards and one TD.

ERIC ALLEN'S ANALYSIS: The Ravens are still a solid defensive team with good personnel, but their talent is now distributed in the secondary. They no longer have the dominant front line that was their staple during their Super Bowl season.

UP NEXT: Bengals (6-6) at Patriots (11-1) | Ravens (7-5) vs. Giants (5-7)

Bears 24, Vikings 14

Recap | Boxscore

IT WAS OVER WHEN... GAME BALL GOES TO...
Jerry Azumah picked of a Daunte Culpepper pass with just 2:01 remaining and the Bears leading 24-14. Chad Hutchinson. Making his first start for the Bears, Hutchinson completed 18 of 30 passes for 213 yards and three TDs.
ERIC ALLEN'S ANALYSIS: It's not a big mystery because the Vikings are so focused on throwing the football that they are susceptible to outdoors conditions. This is a finesse team and they simply play better inside the comforts of their dome.

UP NEXT: Vikings (7-5) vs. Seahawks (6-5) | Bears (5-7) at Jaguars

Patriots 42, Browns 15

Recap | Boxscore

IT WAS OVER WHEN... GAME BALL GOES TO...
Randall Gay returned a William Green fumble 41 yards to put the Patriots up 28-7 at the start of the second half. Patriots defense. Sacked Luke McCown three times, picked off two passes and returned a fumble for a TD.
ERIC ALLEN'S ANALYSIS: No, I don't see anyone beating the Patriots for the rest of the season. The addition of running back Corey Dillon has made this team much better because it gives them a dimension they lacked last season.

UP NEXT: Patriots (11-1) vs. Bengals (6-6) | Browns (3-9) at Bills (6-6)

Lions 26, Cardinals 12

Recap | Boxscore

IT WAS OVER WHEN... GAME BALL GOES TO...
John Navarre's pass on fourth-and-10 from the Cardinals 35-yard line was incomplete. The Lions took over and were able to run out the clock. Kevin Jones. The rookie back had by far his best game as a pro, carrying the ball 26 times for 196 yards and one TD.

ERIC ALLEN'S ANALYSIS: Kevin Jones can be what this team envisioned when they traded up to get him. He can carry the ball 20-25 times per game and still be effective and explosive in the fourth quarter.

UP NEXT: Cardinals (4-8) vs. 49ers (1-11) | Lions (5-7) at Packers (7-5)

Colts 51, Titans 24

Recap | Boxscore

IT WAS OVER WHEN... GAME BALL GOES TO...
Peyton Manning hit Reggie Wayne for a 10-yard touchdown pass to put the Colts up 48-24 with just under 13 minutes left in the game. Colts offense. Manning (425 yards, 3 TDs) obviously leads the way, but it's hard to single out one guy. Brandon Stokley (153 yards, 1 TD), Marvin Harrison (106 yards, 1 TD), Wayne (96 yards, 1 TD) and Edgerrin James (105 yards rushing, 2 TDs) were all huge.
ERIC ALLEN'S ANALYSIS: The Colts are too good offensively and need too many points because of their defense not to break this record (for most points in a season -- 556). This record and the record for touchdown passes by a QB will be in Indianapolis by the time this season is over.

UP NEXT: Titans (4-8) vs. Chiefs (4-8) | Colts (9-3) at Texans (5-7)

Chiefs 34, Raiders 27

Recap | Boxscore

IT WAS OVER WHEN... GAME BALL GOES TO...
Kerry Collins was sacked for a nine-yard loss on second-and-10 with 1:02 left in the game and the Raiders trailing 34-27. Larry Johnson. With Priest Holmes out and Derrick Blaylock injured, Johnson carried the ball 20 times for 118 yards and one TD.

ERIC ALLEN'S ANALYSIS: There's no doubt that the Chiefs needs to make some defensive changes. They seemed to believe that just changing defensive coordinators would be enough last season and they were wrong.

UP NEXT: Chiefs (4-8) at Titans (4-8) | Raiders (4-8) at Falcons (9-3)

Chargers 20, Broncos 17

Recap | Boxscore

IT WAS OVER WHEN... GAME BALL GOES TO...
Darius Watts was tackled after a 10-yard gain on fourth down and time ran out. Watts couldn't run out of bounds after the catch because he wouldn't have had a first down. LaDainian Tomlinson. Was a workhorse for the Chargers, carrying the ball 30 times for 113 yards and two TDs.
ERIC ALLEN'S ANALYSIS: Yes the Chargers do (have the NFL's most underrated run defense) and new defensive coordinator Wade Phillips has done an outstanding job this season. He's done a great job of plugging in the correct linebackers to increase his chances of making this team a dominant defense.

UP NEXT: Broncos (7-5) vs. Dolphins (2-10) | Chargers (9-3) vs. Bucs (5-7)

Redskins 31, Giants 7

Recap | Boxscore

IT WAS OVER WHEN... GAME BALL GOES TO...
Patrick Ramsey connected with Robert Royal on a nine-yard TD, putting the Redskins ahead 21-0 with under one minute left. Clinton Portis. Rushed for 148 yards (and one TD) and also had a receiving TD. It was his first 100-yard game since Week 9 and the first TD he scored since Week 4.

ERIC ALLEN'S ANALYSIS: The Giants are out of the playoff race and they owe it to the mistake of replacing QB Kurt Warner too soon. That was a mistake because the Giants were still in the hunt and Warner was leading this team.

UP NEXT: Giants (4-8) at Ravens (7-5) | Redskins (4-8) vs. Eagles (11-1)

Eagles 47, Packers 17

Recap | Boxscore

IT WAS OVER WHEN... GAME BALL GOES TO...
Donovan McNabb connected with Brian Westbrook on a 12-yard TD pass to put the Eagles up 35-0 near the end of the first half. McNabb. Threw a career-high five TD passes in the first half. Completed 32 of 43 passes for 464 yards.

ERIC ALLEN'S ANALYSIS: It's never been a secret that the Packers had a poor pass defense and the Eagles destroyed it. They found open spots, got the job done and embarrassed the Packers.

UP NEXT: Packers (7-5) vs. Lions (5-7) | Eagles (11-1) at Redskins (4-8)

Steelers 17, Jaguars 16

Recap | Boxscore

IT WAS OVER WHEN... GAME BALL GOES TO...
Josh Scobee's 60-yard FG attempt missed just wide right and just short as time expired. Ben Roethlisberger. The rookie QB completed 14 of 17 passes for 221 yards and two TDs and drove the Steelers into position for what turned out to be the winning FG.

UP NEXT: Jaguars (6-6) vs. Bears (5-7) | Steelers (11-1) vs. Jets (9-3)
