Coach backs out of Bears' job to return to Michigan
LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- Ron English won't coach the defensive backs for the Chicago Bears after all.
"The search for a new coach has restarted immediately," Bears spokesman Scott Hagel said Friday.
English said he had accepted the job earlier this week, but told the team Thursday he decided to turn down the offer.
English spent the past three seasons as the secondary coach at Michigan. School spokesman Bruce Madej confirmed Friday that English would return to Michigan's football program, but wouldn't say in what capacity.
English was supposed to replace Perry Fewell, who became the Buffalo Bills' defensive coordinator late last month.
