Niners pick firms to help with stadium design
SAN FRANCISCO -- The San Francisco 49ers picked an architecture firm and construction company to help with the preliminary design of a possible new stadium at Candlestick Point.
HNTB Architecture Inc. will provide the planning and design services for a new stadium and Turner Construction and Devcon have been retained for the pre-construction management phase of the project, the team announced Tuesday.
"We are excited to work with such a top-notch team with the demonstrated ability to deliver projects with design excellence, innovation and usability," 49ers spokeswoman Lisa Lang said in a statement.
HNTB designed the Denver Broncos' new stadium and is working on the renovation and seismic retrofit of the University California's Memorial Stadium.
The 49ers also confirmed that the team is looking at new ways to finance its planned new stadium at Candlestick Point without relying on the $100 million in revenue bonds approved by voters in 1997.
