EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- The Giants got a big boost to their defense Sunday with the return of defensive end Michael Strahan.

Strahan, who hasn't played since spraining his right foot against Houston on Nov. 5, was scheduled to start in the Giants' key game against the New Orleans Saints.

The Giants are 1-5 without Strahan and at 7-7 are clinging to wild-card playoff hopes. New York was 6-2 after beating Houston on Nov. 5.

The Saints, meanwhile, are playing for a playoff bye. New Orleans (9-5) has already clinched the NFC South division title.

For New Orleans, receiver Joe Horn missed his third straight game with a groin injury.

New Orleans strong safety Omar Stoutmire missed his second straight game with a knee injury.

Both players were inactive. Terrance Copper started for Horn and Jay Bellamy replaced Stoutmire in the starting lineup.

Information from ESPN's Sal Paolantonio and The Associated Press was used in this report.
