Dyson sustained the injury in a Christmas Day victory at Miami. He is listed as questionable on the league injury report, but has not practiced this week and is not expected to play in Sunday's finale against the Oakland Raiders.
A victory over the Raiders will earn the Jets an AFC wild-card spot, but Dyson's injury could sideline him for the first playoff game and perhaps beyond. The injury will not require surgery.
The Jets earlier this week auditioned a few free-agent cornerbacks as a contingency. With Dyson hurting, the team is down to four cornerbacks.
Dyson, 27, is in his first season with the Jets, his third team in three years. The former University of Utah star has started every game at left cornerback, while the Jets have been forced to use four different starters at the right cornerback spot. Dyson has 62 tackles, four interceptions and four passes defensed.
The Jets signed Dyson this spring as an unrestricted free agent and, while some league observers were skeptical about the acquisition, in part because of Dyson's past injury problems, he has proven to be an excellent addition.
A second-round draft choice of Tennessee in 2001, Dyson played four seasons with the Titans and then signed with Seattle as a free agent in 2005. In 87 games, he has 305 tackles, 21 interceptions, 57 passes defensed, one sack, four forced fumbles and one recovery.
