NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- New England safety Rodney Harrison hurt his right leg when blocked in the second quarter Sunday against the Tennessee Titans, left the game and never returned.

Harrison went to the ground and slapped the turf after being blocked by Titans receiver Bobby Wade, whose helmet appeared to hit Harrison's right knee in a low block. He walked off the field on his own.

"Everyone was pretty mad about it," New England quarterback Tom Brady said.

"You keep your poise and try to let your play do the talking. I think sometimes we stooped down to the level we're playing against. We've got to find ways to overcome that type of play."

The Boston Globe reported on Monday, however, that NFL director of offiating Mike Pereira has reviewed the play and deemed it legal.

Belichick had no update on Harrison after the game. Patriots linebacker Rosevelt Colvin said it was unnecessary and hopes Harrison can return for the wild-card playoff game.

The block happened near the Titans' sideline. Titans coach Jeff Fisher, co-chairman of the NFL's competition committee, didn't see the block but said it's permissible for a receiver to block low.

"I don't know what the issue was. It's unfortunate that Rodney did get hurt. I hope he's OK, but receivers block low all the time in this league," Fisher said.

Harrison started the first eight games this season, then broke his right shoulder blade in a 27-20 loss to Indianapolis when wide receiver Marvin Harrison fell on his arm. This was his second game back after the shoulder injury.

He was sidelined most of last season after he tore three ligaments in his left knee at Pittsburgh in the third game.
