Elway to chair Arena League executive committee

NEW YORK -- John Elway has been elected chairman of the Arena Football League's executive committee.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame member is co-owner of the Colorado Crush. The former star quarterback, who led the Denver Broncos to Super Bowl titles after the 1997 and '98 seasons, succeeds Los Angeles Avengers owner Casey Wasserman.

Wasserman held the job for three years and remains on the AFL's most prestigious committee.

Elway has taken an active role in the Crush's front office and in league matters. His team won the AFL title in 2005.
