HOUSTON -- Houston Texans offensive lineman Chester Pitts
was arrested Thursday after speeding off during a traffic stop near
Reliant Stadium, police said in local media reports.

Pitts is facing charges of felony evading arrest, Houston Police
Department spokeswoman Johanna Abad told the Houston Chronicle for
its Thursday online editions.

"We're gathering all the details and information regarding
Chester's arrest and we'll comment at the appropriate time,"
Texans spokesman Tony Wyllie told The Associated Press on Thursday
night.

Pitts was one of several drivers pulled over Thursday afternoon
after making an illegal turn, police said. A traffic sting had been
initiated after police said they received complaints from residents
that drivers were making illegal turns in their neighborhood.

Pitts at first cooperated with police after being flagged down
and told why he was stopped, Abad said.

"The officer then walks off for a few minutes to finish issuing
a citation to another vehicle and observes Pitts leave," Abad
said.

The officer and his supervisor got in separate cars and chased
Pitts for less than a mile, where police said he stopped and was
arrested.

Abad said police contacted the Harris County district attorney's
office which accepted felony evading charges against Pitts.

He was being held in the city jail Thursday night.

An HPD spokesperson could not be reached by The Associated Press
Thursday night.

Pitts, a guard, is the only player to have started each game in
franchise history.
