Patriots' Brown activated Sunday vs. Dolphins
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Troy Brown was activated by the New England Patriots for the first time this year Sunday, giving the versatile wide receiver a chance to play for them for the 15th straight season.
Brown had been taken off the physically unable to perform list following the 11th game after recovering from knee injury. First-year Patriots Randy Moss, Wes Welker and Donte' Stallworth took over the top three spots among the team's wide receivers.
Among the inactive Patriots for the game against the Miami Dolphins were tight ends Benjamin Watson (ankle) and Kyle Brady (foot). Wide receiver Chad Jackson, guards Stephen Neal and Billy Yates and linebacker Chad Brown were also inactive.
For Miami, defensive end Jason Taylor was active, putting him in position to break the club record of 129 straight games held by Hall of Fame center Jim Langer. Taylor missed practice Wednesday and Thursday with a foot injury and was listed as questionable Friday.
Miami's inactive players were running back Patrick Cobbs, tackles Julius Wilson and Anthony Alabi, defensive tackles Anthony Bryant and Paul Soliai, defensive end Rob Ninkovich and safety Tuff Harris.
Troy Brown, the Patriots' eighth-round draft choice out of Marshall in 1993, also has returned punts and kickoffs and played defensive back.
He is the longest-tenured member of the Patriots. His 557 career receptions place him first in franchise history, and his 6,366 yards receiving are second all-time. He is also the team's leading punt returner with 246 returns for 2,570 yards, and his three punt runbacks for touchdowns tie Irving Fryar for the team record.
He had 101 receptions for 1,199 yards and five touchdowns in 2001 when he earned a Pro Bowl spot for the only time.
