Giants, Jets hire Cardinals president Lamping to oversee stadium construction

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- The New York Giants and Jets hired St. Louis Cardinals president Mark Lamping on Thursday to oversee construction and operations of the $1.6 billion stadium they're building at the Meadowlands.

Lamping, the Cardinals' president since September 1994, directed the demolition of old Busch Stadium and the construction of the baseball team's new stadium.

Meanwhile, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported on its Web site that Bill DeWitt III, the 40-year-old son of Cardinals chairman Bill DeWitt Jr., will become team president.
