Shirley sentenced after being found guilty of drunken driving, hit and run

CINCINNATI -- A Fresno (Calif.) County judge sentenced Cincinnati Bengals defensive lineman Jason Shirley to 30 days in a work program after a jury found him guilty of drunken driving and hit and run.

The verdict and sentence against Shirley were handed down Monday, said his lawyer, Laura Magill. Shirley could face a suspension by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell for violating the league's player conduct policy.

Police say the former Fresno State football player had a blood-alcohol level of 0.12, above the legal limit of 0.08, on Oct. 8, 2007, when he crashed into a Fresno apartment and fled the scene.

His first case in connection with the incident ended in a mistrial.
