Suisham to compete for job in camp
With an extension to the deal, Suisham will become an unrestricted free agent next spring. The Redskins tendered Suisham at the lowest possible level.
Suisham, 27, is coming off a disappointing 2008 season, when he converted only 26 of 36 field goal attempts. His 72.2 percent conversion rate was the lowest in the league among regular kickers in 2008.
After bouncing around the league for several seasons, Suisham caught on with the Redskins in 2006, and has converted 67 of 86 field goal tries, a conversion rate of 77.9 percent. He also has a strong leg, as evidenced by nine touchbacks in 2008.
Originally signed by the Pittsburgh Steelers as an undrafted free agent in 2005, the former Bowling Green star has played previously with Dallas (2005-2006) and San Francisco (2006).
