Ex-Steeler Haynes migrates to Falcons
FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. -- The Atlanta Falcons have signed former Georgia running back Verron Haynes.
Haynes, who spent the last six seasons as a backup with the Pittsburgh Steelers, adds depth to an Atlanta backfield that already includes Michael Turner and Jerious Norwood.
Haynes led the Bulldogs in rushing with 691 yards as a senior, then was drafted in the fifth round by Pittsburgh. He rushed for 738 yards, caught 58 passes and scored five touchdowns during his tenure with the Steelers.
To make room for Haynes, the Falcons cut receiver Troy Bergeron Wednesday, who had only been signed a day earlier.
In another move, Atlanta hired Eric Sutulovich as assistant special teams coach. The former Detroit assistant will work under special teams coordinator Keith Armstrong.
