Michael Vick is expected to hire renowned performance trainer Tom Shaw to prepare the quarterback for his return as a football player, according to sources familiar with Vick's plans.
Clayton: What's Next for Vick?
John Clayton analyzes the next steps in the career of Michael Vick, who was released from home confinement Monday. Story
Shaw has trained a number of star athletes, especially football players, using methods to improve a player's power, explosiveness and quickness -- all athletic traits that Vick displayed in his collegiate and NFL career before his two-year hiatus while serving a 20-month federal prison term for his criminal dogfighting conviction.
Vick has trained previously with Shaw, and Shaw has worked with other notable NFL players such as Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Eli Manning, Jay Cutler, Derrick Brooks and Deion Sanders. Shaw's Web site claims he has worked with the last nine Super Bowl MVPs, 118 first-round draft picks and eight No. 1 picks.
Shaw's training facility is located at Disney's Wide World of Sports complex in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. It is unknown if Vick's training regimen with Shaw will occur at the Disney complex or at another site.
A source did not disclose the exact day Vick will start training with Shaw, as expected, but noted that it will be in near future.
