Culpepper out with foot injury
ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- Detroit Lions' quarterback Daunte Culpepper did not play in Detroit's preseason finale against Buffalo because of a foot injury.
Rookie No. 1 draft pick Matthew Stafford started the game Thursday night. Culpepper would have been the backup. He cut the top of his foot at home on Saturday.
Stafford was 5 of 9 passing for 89 yards before being replaced by Brooks Bollinger. He was signed Tuesday after third-stringer Drew Stanton required knee surgery.
The Lions (2-1) also rested starting running back Kevin Smith, cornerback Phillip Buchanon and linebacker Ernie Sims.
The Bills (1-3) rested starting quarterback Trent Edwards, receivers Terrell Owens and Lee Evans, and their entire starting defense.
