Colts place QB Sorgi on IR
Sorgi had been the third quarterback for the past four games after hurting his right throwing shoulder in practice.
Painter, a Purdue alum, was a sixth-round draft pick in April.
The Colts signed offensive lineman Michael Toudouze, Indy's fifth-round pick in 2006, to fill Sorgi's spot. They waived quarterback Shane Boyd from the practice squad and signed former University of Buffalo quarterback Drew Willy.
In other injury news, defensive end Robert Mathis did not practice because of a strained quadriceps. Indy's top two left tackles, Charlie Johnson and Tony Ugoh, were also out. Johnson has a foot injury. Ugoh, the former starter, replaced Johnson in the lineup Sunday but has a hip injury.
Manning did practice despite being listed with an injury to his glute.
Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.
