Manning's agent, Tom Condon, confirmed that he informed Indianapolis Colts president Bill Polian in a face-to-face meeting Wednesday that the 13-year veteran quarterback will not discuss or negotiate a new contract until after the 2010 season. Condon said Polian's reaction was simple: "OK."
Manning is in the final year of a seven-year, $99.2 million contract. If he does not have a new deal in place for 2011, the Colts are expected to place a franchise tag on the quarterback at an estimated guaranteed $24 million.
Condon also said there have been "zero negotiations" between the Colts and Manning.
Condon, who represents many of the league's top players, made a 255-mile drive from St. Louis to Indianapolis to deliver a very brief message that Manning does not want any distractions during the football season.
"Why did I drive all that way? Because we have a long-standing relationship," replied Condon.
