Reid bugged by late hits on Michael Vick
The number of late hits quarterback Michael Vick has taken this season has ruffled the Philadelphia Eagles to the point that they are in the process of making the NFL aware of their concerns, sources tell ESPN's Sal Paolantonio.
After another game of Vick being hurried, harassed and knocked down a number of times, Eagles coach Andy Reid said Friday that seeing Vick also get hit after the whistle has come to disturb him.
"It bothers me to be honest with you. That bothers me. I see the same thing you're seeing and it bothers me," Reid said."He does run, but he's still the quarterback and you can't treat him like he's a running back there. That's not what the rules state."
Reid added, "I'll deal with the people I need to on that."
When asked if he had filed a complaint with the league, Reid told Paolantonio, "I can't say anything."
Vick led the Eagles to their eighth victory Thursday with his arm and legs, 34-24 over Houston. He passed for two scores and scored the go-ahead touchdown on a 2-yard run as Philadelphia improved to 8-4, a half-game ahead of the New York Giants in the NFC East.
"If you go back and watch the film, I'm getting hit after I throw the ball, repeatedly. It's time after time after time," Vick said Friday on WIP-AM 610 radio, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer. "I'm getting my face mask pulled, I'm getting hit in the head, the calls are not being made."
For his efforts Thursday, Vick was left bruised and battered.
"Every time I get hit, I look up at the ref and I see no flag," Vick said. "And I see other quarterbacks standing in the pocket -- the minute they get touched there's a flag on the field."
Vick's comeback from prison time for running a dogfighting operation continued its remarkable course as he completed 22 of 33 passes and had his third 300-yard game. He also missed three games earlier this season due to a rib injury.
"This has been happening for the last four or five weeks, and I haven't complained, I haven't said anything, but it's getting to a point where I'm getting tired of getting up off the canvas," Vick said, according to The Inquirer. "The defense is going to continue to do it because it's not getting called."
