Donovan McNabb, ex-'mates work out
The Washington Redskins quarterback was in the Philadelphia area for the dedication of the new Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Voorhees Replacement Hospital, which he helped fund with a large donation. He said the opportunity to work out with his former teammates was a no-brainer.
"I'm just working out right now," McNabb told CSNPhilly.com. "As you can see, I'm in some great shape, and I'm only going to get better."
McNabb hasn't taken part in any of the Redskins' informal workouts. He made headlines this week when he vowed in an online video that his 2011 season will be "special" -- noteworthy since his first (and likely only) season in Washington was a disappointment. He was benched twice in 2010 and his agent even got into a war of words with the team.
"For those who wanna sit back and dwell on what happened last year, so be it," McNabb said. "But 2011's gonna be a special season. A season in which I feel that I've prepared myself well -- not just conditioning and strengthwise, but most importantly getting back to the fundamentals.
"And I look to display that in the 2011 season. And for those who feel like it can't be possible: I'll prove you wrong."
McNabb is expected to be traded or released by the Redskins soon after the lockout ends.
On Wednesday, McNabb said he enjoyed getting the chance to work out with some of his former teammates.
"Well, you communicate with them, but to actually see them and work with them is a wonderful thing," McNabb told the website.
His former teammates also enjoyed reuniting with McNabb.
"It was real good. It was refreshing hearing that laugh, that chuckle that you could probably hear from a mile away," Eagles center Jamaal Jackson told the website. "It was good seeing him. I'll try to bait him up to stay out here a little while longer."
