Everyone has an opinion about what will happen during the NFL season. And the predictions will prove to be either true or false.

So we've made four bold statements and asked our ESPN experts -- former NFL players Eric Allen and Joe Theismann -- whether they believe the statements eventually will become fact or fiction.

On which side of the fence do they sit? Click on the links below for their answers.

Eric Allen
Fiction: The biggest surprise of the year has been the outstanding play of the Indianapolis Colts' defense. No one expected this team's defense to play this well. It's getting a great upfield push from the defensive line and the secondary is doing a phenomenal job swarming to the ball and breaking up plays. Tony Dungy might finally have the balance that he craved for this team.

Joe Theismann
Fiction: I expected this Bengals team to be a better football team than in years past and it's reached those expectations. The only real surprise on this team has been how well the defense has played because that was the perceived weakness. To me the biggest surprise of the season has been the play of the New York Giants. No one expected Eli Manning to mature this quickly and to be able to utilize his offensive weapons so ably, but he has and now the Giants are among the NFC elite.
