News: Manuel (shoulder) was placed on injured reserve by the Lions on Wednesday The Detroit News reports.
Spin: Manuel, who started six games at strong safety, was lost for the season to a shoulder injury when he collided with linebacker Larry Foote on the Lions' first defensive snap of the second half in Sunday's 27-10 loss at Minnesota. Replacing him on the roster is safety DeAngelo Smith, a rookie fifth-round pick who was signed off the Chicago Bears' practice squad.
