Normally, a high-ankle sprain can take four to six weeks to heal, but Pouncey refused to rule himself out for season finale.
"I think to say anything at this point would be premature," Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said. "Of course, it was such that he couldn't go back in the game today. I am sure we will have more information that will be debated here in the next couple of weeks."
Pouncey was injured in the first quarter when Jets linebacker Bryan Thomas got pushed back into the rookie center in the first quarter. Thomas rolled over the back of Pouncey's leg on a 7-yard pass from quarterback Ben Roethlisberger to Hines Ward to the New York 1.
Pouncey put no weight on the ankle as he hopped to the sideline with the aid of two trainers. He was replaced by Doug Legursky, and Rashard Mendenhall scored on the next play to give Pittsburgh a 7-0 lead.
Jets receiver Jerricho Cotchery limped off the field to the locker room late in the second quarter after hurting his left hamstring while blocking on a kickoff return, but returned midway through the third quarter.
The Steelers won 24-19 and earned a trip to Super Bowl XLV.
