Deuce's Wild
New Orleans fans knew what was coming. So did coach Sean Payton. And the Eagles defense sure as heck knew too. Didn't matter. There was no stopping Deuce McAllister as he carried the Saints into their first-ever NFC Championship game. Pasquarelli
| SCOUTS' TAKE |
Philadelphia has made big plays all year and the Saints, when they have lost, have been burned by big plays. Using big passing plays in the first half to loosen up the New Orleans defense, Philadelphia managed to lead by a point at halftime. However, it wasn't enough as New Orleans dominated the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. Jeff Garcia was rarely allowed enough time in the pocket to let the downfield passing game to develop, and ended up completing only 15 of 30 attempts. He generally had enough time to just complete short passes and was pressured into several bad throws. The Saints, meanwhile, were able to gain over 200 yards on the ground and keep the ball out of the the hands of Philadelphia's playmakers. Sean Payton did not panic when the Saints fell behind by eight points and stuck with his game plan, winning the battle in the trenches and the time of possession by almost 10 minutes.
