SCOUTING REPORT
Expect Colts to harass QB GarrardThe undefeated Colts continue to be the NFL's biggest story with four games remaining. QB Peyton Manning, RB Edgerrin James and WR Marvin Harrison maintain starring roles in one of the league's most balanced offensive attacks. But this week, the triplets will look to atone for the Colts' worst offensive showing of the season, a Week 2 squeaker in the RCA Dome in which the Jaguars held them to just 10 points.

This time, the Jaguars' swarming defense will have the built-in advantage of playing on a slower outdoor surface in front of its home crowd. The question, however, is how well fill-in QB David Garrard will fare in his first start against a Colts defense that leads the NFL with 39 sacks. For the Jaguars to put an end to the Colts' quest for a perfect season, Garrard will need a mistake-free outing and lots of help from bruising RB Greg Jones.

Indianapolis (12-0) at Jacksonville (9-3) Sunday 1:00 pm EST

JACKSONVILLE, Florida (Ticker) - The Indianapolis Colts are playing for more than just a lucky 13.

Unbeaten and widely untested, the Colts could clinch home-field advantage throughout the AFC playoffs with a victory Sunday over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

With a victory, the Colts also would wrap up their third straight AFC South title and ensure the playoffs would go through the RCA Dome.

Indianapolis is the fifth team to reach a perfect dozen, joining the 1934 Chicago Bears, 1972 Miami Dolphins, 1985 Bears and 1998 Denver Broncos. Denver was the last team to reach 13-0 before losing to the New York Giants.

"I know how hard it is to win nine games, 10 games, 11 games," Colts quarterback Peyton Manning said. "To win 12 games is extremely hard, but to win 12 in a row ... You don't have to pat yourself on the back as a team."

If the Colts clear this hurdle, they have challenging games the next two weeks against San Diego and Seattle before closing the season against Arizona.

The only team to have a perfect season in NFL history was the 1972 Dolphins, who went 14-0 in the regular season and won all three postseason games.

The 1934 and 1942 Bears went 13-0 and 11-0, respectively, but lost the NFL championship game.

There were four unbeaten teams in NFL history that tied at least once - the 1929 Green Bay Packers (12-0-1), 1923 Canton Bulldogs (11-0-1), 1922 Bulldogs (10-0-2) and 1920 Akron Pros (8-0-3).

Still with their explosive offense and improved defense, the Colts have an average margin of victory of 17.0 points this season. The closest anyone has played the Colts this season has been seven points on two occasions.

Jacksonville, which has split the season series with the Colts in each of the last two seasons, dropped a 10-3 decision at Indianapolis in Week Two on September 18.

Defense was the story in the first meeting as the Colts sacked Byron Leftwich six times and held the Jaguars to just 12 first downs. Tackle Montae Reagor registered three sacks.

The Jaguars had a chance to tie the game, reaching the Indianapolis 22 in the final seconds after a 25-yard pass from Leftwich to Ernest Wilford. But on the last play of the game, Leftwich's pass intended for Jimmy Smith in the end zone was broken up by safety Bob Sanders.

Meanwhile, Colts quarterback Peyton Manning, the NFL's Most Valuable Player each of the last two years, failed to throw a touchdown pass. He completed just 13-of-28 for 122 yards with an interception.

Edgerrin James carried the Colts' offense, rushing for 128 yards on 27 attempts and catching four passes for 39 yards.

But Indianapolis was blanked by the Jaguars until Ran Carthon, the son of former NFL fullback Maurice Carthon, scored on a six-yard run with 8:27 left in the fourth quarter. It capped a 17-play, 88-yard drive that consumed nearly nine minutes.

Indianapolis failed to score in the first half of a regular-season game since October 6, 2003 at Tampa Bay.

Josh Scobee kicked a 28-yard field goal with 6:59 left in the third quarter to account for the only points for Jacksonville. A 24-yard punt return by rookie Alvin Pearman set up the field goal.

Instead of dealing with Leftwich, who is expected to be sidelined until at least the regular-season finale with a broken bone in his ankle, the Colts now will contend with the mobile David Garrard.

Manning threw for 187 yards and three touchdowns and James rushed for 107 yards and a score as the Colts continued their magical season last week with a 35-3 thrashing of Tennessee.

James, who has nine 100-yard games, leads the AFC in rushing with 1,347 yards to go along with 12 touchdowns.

Overshadowed because of the Colts' big season, the Jaguars are riding are atop the AFC wild card race and have a five-game winning streak, their longest since an 11-game run in 1999 which is the last time they made the playoffs.

Making his first start of the season in place of Leftwich, Garrard completed 11-of-20 passes for 116 yards and two touchdowns with an interceptions last week as the Jaguars rallied for a 20-14 victory at Cleveland.

This is the Jaguars' last game against a team with a winning record. After this, they play San Francisco, Tennessee and Houston, which have a combined record of 6-30.

Matchup to watch: Reagor against left guard Vince Manuwai.

Series: The Colts lead, 7-2.

Next week: Indianapolis hosts San Diego, December 18 Jacksonville hosts San Francisco, December 18
