Falcons-Panthers Preview
| SCOUTING REPORT |
Carr must spread wealthThe Carolina Panthers need this win in a suddenly extremely tight NFC South. The Panthers have not won a home game yet this season and this will be their best opportunity to get a winning streak started at home. This game has been a solid divisional rivalry game since the divisions were re-formed. Even though some of the luster is taken away because Atlanta is not very good, the Falcons will come to the play this week. Carolina needs a win to keep pace with the Bucs, who are a ½ game ahead and on a bye this week. |

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -- Carolina Panthers quarterback Vinny Testaverde was on the active roster for Sunday's game against Atlanta despite a right Achilles' tendon injury.
Testaverde, who turns 44 on Tuesday, was expected to start ahead of undrafted rookie Matt Moore. David Carr was ruled out of the game late in the week after sustaining a concussion last Sunday against Tennessee.
Panthers receiver Keary Colbert (foot) was inactive. For the Falcons, receiver Joe Horn (hamstring) and running back Jerious Norwood (ankle) did not dress, but tight end Alge Crumpler was active after missing the past two games with ankle and knee injuries.
Rookie Laurent Robinson started ahead of Horn, who was added to the injury report Saturday.
Testaverde was signed last month after the Panthers lost original starter Jake Delhomme to a season-ending elbow injury and Carr suffered a back injury.
Four days later, Testaverde became the oldest starting quarterback to win a game, when he threw for 206 yards, a touchdown and no interceptions at Arizona.
But Testaverde came out of Carolina's next game against Indianapolis at halftime with pain in his Achilles' tendon. Carr replaced him and started a week later against Tennessee.
Testaverde practiced for two straight days last week before being held out of Friday's workout.
Drew Olson, signed to the Panthers' practice squad this week and elevated to the 53-man roster Saturday, was listed as the emergency third quarterback.
