Texans-Chiefs: Does Vermeil have the personnel to get this team turned around? The answer is definitely yes, but the real question is: Can the Chiefs' offense overcome the poor play of the defense? On paper, this offense is extremely explosive, but it isn't happening on the field. This week is a perfect example of the offense looking good, but the effort still not translating into a victory. RB Priest Holmes had over 100 yards rushing and TE Tony Gonzalez had a big game also, but the Chiefs' defense cost the team the game. Defenses have to give their offense a break sometimes by causing turnovers or forcing three-and-outs to take the pressure off, and the Chiefs don't do that. They give up third-down conversions readily and are terrible at making the opposition cough the ball up. Until the defense starts to play better, the Chiefs aren't going to win.Eric Allen played cornerback for 14 NFL seasons with the Eagles, Saints and Raiders. He's a regular contributor to Insider. |

Carr did not complete a pass until 11:20 remained in the first half, when Domanick Davis had a 17-yard catch.
