EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) -- Don't write off the New York Giants' defense just yet. For that matter, don't write off the defending division champions, either.
| John Clayton's take ... |

The Giants made themselves good Sunday. The chaotic, disjointed team that played in Seattle two weeks ago stayed on the West Coast. A focused, efficient team re-emerged at Giants Stadium, John Clayton writes.

| Scouts Inc.'s take ... |

The bye couldn't have come at a better time for the Giants, whose defense finally decided to show up for a game.
The Giants' offense looked crisp, running and passing the ball at will against the Redskins' defense. Tiki Barber (above) ran the ball outside and inside as the Giants' offensive line created large running lanes for him to run through. Eli Manning had a solid game, with a good combination of short, quick throws and play-action passes to keep the Redskins' defense off balance. Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is a good way to describe the Redskins' offense, and it was Mr. Hyde who showed up at Giants Stadium on Sunday. The Giants' defensive front seven dictated this game. Linebacker Antonio Pierce was making plays in the running game sideline-to-sideline. |
Game notes
Shockey left the game late with an undisclosed foot injury. ... Redskins DE Phillip Daniels injured his shoulder during the game. ... Giants opened with a nickel defense, taking Arrington off the field. ... With Carlos Emmons (chest) out, Brandon Short started at weakside linebacker for the Giants. ... Kenny Wright replaced Shawn Springs (groin) at cornerback for the Redskins.
