Qualcomm Stadium, San Diego, CA
SAN DIEGO (AP) -- It was an electrifying run in a charged-up season.
• His 31st TD, extending the single-season record he set a week ago.
• 186 points, extending the single-season record he set in the first quarter. With a 15-yard TD run on San Diego's opening drive, Tomlinson broke Paul Hornung's 46-year-old NFL season record of 176.
• 28 TDs rushing -- the most ever in a season. He also has three TD catches.
• Eight straight multi-touchdown games, breaking the record he shared with John Riggins.

San Diego's front three clogged interior running lanes and forced Larry Johnson (right) to bounce many runs outside, making the Chiefs somewhat one-dimensional. The Chargers' outside linebackers gave the Chiefs fits off the edge and Kansas City's offensive tackles were exposed repeatedly. San Diego blitzed its linebackers with great success all night.
On offense, the Chargers also had a difficult time protecting against the Chiefs' edge pass rushers and San Diego's passing game never showed timing or rhythm. With their Cover 2 scheme, Kansas City didn't bring an extra defender into the box often enough and LaDainian Tomlinson consistently exploited this poor decision for big gains.
LaDainian Tomlinson scored both Chargers touchdowns in their 20-9 win over the Chiefs. L.T. increased his record total to 31 TDs this season, three more than the previous mark, set by Shaun Alexander in 2005. Tomlinson is only the second player in NFL history to break the existing single-season record for touchdowns by as many as three. Don Huston did that in 1942, scoring 17 TDs to break the record of 14 set 11 years earlier by John McNally (a.k.a., Johnny Blood).Since then, the record has increased by one TD at a time except for 1965, when Gale Sayers scored 22 TDs (two more than the previous record), and this season.
