To say the Cardinals shut down the Lions ground game would be an understatement. Arizona held Detroit to -18 rush yards which is the fewest in a single game since '47.
Detroit lost starting cornerback Fernando Bryant to a calf injury. Marinelli said it was too soon to know how serious it was. ... Arizona outside linebacker Bertrand Berry left with a right triceps injury. He missed the final six games of last season with torn left triceps. ... Saftey Adrian Wilson left the game early, but said afterward it was only cramps.
Arizona was able to get its fourth win of the season because of two key factors. First, the Cardinals' defense held the Lions to negative yardage on the ground. Second, the Cardinals' offense used exceptional time management and ball control to keep the potent Lions offense on the sideline for a majority of the game. The final blow came on quarterback Kurt Warner's 20-yard touchdown pass to Larry Fitzgerald early in the fourth quarter, a play that was set up by Jon Kitna's fumble at the end of the third quarter. Detroit made a comeback attempt and got within 10 points with less than two minutes to go, but its special teams could not come up with an onside kick to give the offense another chance.
