Invesco Field, Denver, CO
Young became the sixth undrafted rookie in league history to top 500 yards rushing. ... The Broncos were without WR Javon Walker, who missed his eighth game with a bad right knee, and Kansas City was without RB Larry Johnson (foot) for the fifth straight week.
After a disappointing Week 13 loss to Oakland that severely hurt Denver's playoff hopes, the Broncos bounced back in a big way against Kansas City. The key was their ability to finally dial up their run defense, and they held the Chiefs to 16 yards on 17 carries. It was a schematic change that made the difference. Denver was able to take advantage of a Chiefs offense that can't throw the ball, and the Broncos consistently loaded up with eight-man fronts in the first half while building a big lead. In its perfect world, Denver would like to use the eight-man box every week, but it has been able to get away with it only against teams that can't throw the football. Fortunately, the Chiefs fit that bill.
