Chargers QB Philip Rivers had thrown all three of his interceptions on third down this season. But against the Chiefs, he was stellar. Of his six completions on third down, all went for first downs and two went for touchdowns.

• Philip Rivers threw for 268 yards and three TDs to help the Chargers end a two-game losing skid and win their fourth straight against the Chiefs. Rivers has thrown for more than 250 yards in all six games this season and has seven TDs and no INTs in his last three games. He passed Stan Humphries for third on the Chargers' career passing touchdowns list (88).
• Vincent Jackson had five receptions for 142 yards. That's the second-highest total of his career and third 100-yard receiving game this season.
• Matt Cassel went 10 for 25 for 97 yards, one touchdown and a career high three INTs. His 25.3 passer rating was the lowest for a single game since he became a starter.
• Kansas City lost its 10th straight home game.

Both kickers missed a 43-yard field goal. KC rookie Ryan Succop missed after going 4 for 4 the week before and getting the game ball. ... A steady rain fell much of the second half, which the Chiefs had hoped would be in their favor against the Californians. Knowing rain was forecast for Sunday, the Chiefs had practiced in a hard rain all day on Wednesday.
