Deep Impact
Tim Tebow stung the Steelers with big passing plays Sunday, including a playoff-record 80-yard touchdown pass in overtime. The deep throw is something Tebow has struggled with and a play the Steelers are normally stout against.

“"He showed he's a quarterback in the NFL, case closed," McGahee said. "They say he couldn't throw. They said we wouldn't be able to run the ball on them. We did that. I wonder what they're going to say next week."Mundy was playing in place of Ryan Clark, the Steelers' leading tackler who sat this one out because of a blood condition that's exacerbated at altitude."We lost, and it's not because I didn't play; we had very capable guys that played well," said Clark, who was one of several Steelers sidelined or injured. Pro Bowl center Maurkice Pouncey was out, replaced by Doug Legursky, who had a bad snap right before halftime that moved Pittsburgh out of field goal range. On the first snap of overtime, Thomas pulled in Tebow's high pass and raced down the Broncos sideline, sending the crowd, including Elway, the Broncos executive vice president, into a frenzy at Sports Authority Field, which was rocking like the old Mile High Stadium back in the 1990s.McGahee sold the play-action well, drawing safety Troy Polamalu and others up to the line to defend the run and leaving Thomas with room on the crossing pattern to grab the pass and turn on the jets for the 80-yard score, Tebow's longest pass play as a pro."It was a little surprising," Steelers linebacker James Farrior said. "But I guess he's been working hard. He's taken a lot of criticism over the past few weeks about his throwing motion, his passing game. Like I said earlier, he's a competitor. You keep trying to down a guy, and a guy like him who's a tough competitor, he's going to get you one time."Hines Ward called this defeat "just as disappointing" as last year's loss to Green Bay in the Super Bowl."I've been on a lot of really good teams, thank God, and I felt this team was up there with them," Polamalu said. "We weren't able to stay healthy and keep a cohesiveness like we wanted to."” -- Broncos RB Willis McGahee

Finish Strong
Tim Tebow is known best for the way he finishes games. On Sunday, that was no different. Except Tebow added a strong second quarter to his recipe for success.

Tim Tebow had three throws of more than 50 yards. In the last 10 seasons, the Steelers had never allowed more than two passes of 50-plus yards in any game.
During the regular season, the Broncos had scored just 33 points in the 2nd quarter in 16 games COMBINED. That was the fewest in the NFL. Of course, they nearly scored that many on Sunday vs the Steelers (20 pts).
The 20 points scored by the Broncos is tied for the 2nd-most they have scored in ANY quarter of a playoff game. They also scored 20 points in the 3rd quarter vs the Jets in the 1998 AFC Conference Championship game. The most is the 21 points they scored in the 4th quarter vs the Jaguars in the 1997 Wild Card round.
The 20 points allowed by the Steelers in the 2nd quarter is the 2nd-most they have allowed in ANY quarter in a playoff game since the merger. The most is 21 points which they allowed to the Raiders in the 1983 Divisional Round.
From Elias: Tim Tebow is the fifth quarterback since the AFL-NFL merger in 1970 to throw for at least 300 yards, and two touchdowns in his postseason debut. [+]300 Pass Yards and 2 or More Pass TD - QB in Postseason Debut (since AFL-NFL merger in 1970)

Five of Tim Tebow's 21 pass attempts resulted in gains of 30 or more yards (23.8 percent). Entering Sunday the Broncos had just 11 plays of that length on 271 attempts with Tebow at quarterback (4.1 percent). All five passes were thrown to targets 15 or more yards from the line of scrimmage Sunday.
From Elias: Tim Tebow is the only QB to complete three 50-yard passes in one postseason game since the NFL/AFL merger in 1970.
NEXT LEVEL: Ben Roethlisberger completed 6-of-13 passes for 74 yards and an interception when the Broncos sent five or more pass rushers Sunday. The Broncos extra pressure halted the Steelers' final drive, as 2 of their 3 sacks on the drive came with 5 pass rushers.

They say (Tebow) couldn't throw. They said we wouldn't be able to run the ball on them. We did that. I wonder what they're going to say next week.
