Del Rio reportedly calls Harvey demands 'outrageous'
When the Saints reached agreement on a contract with rookie defensive tackle Sedrick Ellis on Tuesday, it had to give Jaguars fans hope that Derrick Harvey wouldn't be far behind. They went seventh and eighth, respectively, in the recent NFL draft.
That doesn't appear to be the case.
Jacksonville coach Jack Del Rio broke from his policy of not discussing contract negotiations to express frustration with the Harvey talks, according to a Florida Times-Union report.
Del Rio told the newspaper that the demands of the defensive end out of Florida were "ridiculous" and "outrageous."
While Harvey's holdout from training camp stretches to a week, Del Rio said that the rookie is definitely losing ground.
"He's falling behind, there's no question," Del Rio said, according to the newspaper. "It's unfortunate he's not here. There were some deals in front of us that were outrageous in my opinion. [That] makes it difficult to have him here. We have a belief in where we're gonna go and we still have a belief on where it's gonna go, and right now we're not in agreement. At some point, you lose so much that you don't become as valuable. We're not there yet, but it's time to get into camp."
ESPN.com's John Clayton reported on Tuesday that Ellis reached agreement on a five-year deal worth up to $49 million.
