TAMPA, Fla. -- The Tampa Bay Buccaneers placed punter Josh Bidwell on the injured reserve list Monday afternoon after he experienced pain and swelling in his hip last week.

The Bucs signed veteran punter Dirk Johnson to kick in the preseason opener Saturday. With no other punters in camp, the Bucs will likely stay with Johnson, 34, as their punter if he performs well through the rest of the preseason.

Bidwell was a Pro Bowl selection in the 2005 season and had a 144 consecutive-game streak dating back to 1999.

The Bucs filled Bidwell's roster spot by signing receiver Marcus Maxwell.
