Jackson should be ready for season
Though his wrist and thumb were too sore to allow him to practice, Jackson said tests showed no serious injury a day after he took a hit on his left hand during a running play. What worried Jackson was that he was hit just above the thumb, aggravating an injury he sustained about a week ago.
"It was a little scary yesterday when I first did it, but I feel fine right now," Jackson said. "That's always a good thing when the X-rays come back negative, so I'm enthusiastic about that."
Jackson hoped to test the injury in practice on Thursday to determine whether he'll be able to play in Buffalo's preseason game at Pittsburgh on Saturday. The Bills close their preseason schedule hosting the Detroit Lions on Sept. 3, before opening the season at New England on Sept. 14.
"Yeah, I'll be fine," Jackson said, referring to being ready for the regular season. "Right now everything's just precautionary, so I'm excited about that."
Coach Dick Jauron said it's too early to rule out Jackson from playing Saturday.
Receiver Terrell Owens, who will miss his third straight preseason game, continued working out on his own to test a sprained toe he hurt in the Hall of Fame Game on Aug. 9. Owens showed no signs of a limp in spending about 30 minutes practicing his footwork, sprinting and cutting to both the left and right.
Owens worked inside the Bills field house while the team spent most of the session outdoors in a persistent rain.
Linebacker Ashlee Palmer practiced on a limited basis for the first time in more than two weeks since spraining his ankle. An undrafted rookie free agent out of Mississippi, Palmer had impressed Bills coaches before getting hurt.
Undrafted rookie free-agent cornerback Lydell Sargeant missed practice a day after hurting his knee and will not play Saturday.
