Tony Beckham

SELECTED BY MINNESOTA , ROUND 4, PICK 19, OVERALL PICK 115
DB | (6-0, 194, 4.48) | Wisc. Stout
By Pro Football Weekly

Notes: Comes from the speed state, Florida, where he played his high school football. Redshirted in 1997 and has started the past four years. Had 40 tackles and three passes broken up in '98; 27-7 and his first three interceptions in '99; 39-14-1 in 2000; and 36-7-1 in '01. Also returned kicks in '00 and returned kicks and played some wide receiver in '01. Had 14 kickoff returns for 317 yards and one touchdown in '00. Returned 16-386-1 with seven catches for 183 yards and three touchdowns in '01. Fastest player and best cover man on the team, but this is a Division III school, not Miami or Florida or Florida State.

Positives: Excellent size-speed ratio. Started to dominate his level in '01. Had a good week and was impressive in the Blue-Gray All-Star game. Also played in the Gridiron Classic. Has good height and plays big because he has long arms. Has quick feet and shows some make-up speed at times. Is enthusiastic and seems to like the game. Has good hands and can return kickoffs.

Negatives: Very raw around the edges and must really improve his footwork. Was so much faster than the other players in his league that he could outrun most of his mistakes. At times will struggle to locate the ball.

Summary: A very interesting small-college prospect with big-league size and speed and an awful lot to learn if he is to play on the next level.
