Seth Mckinney SELECTED BY ATLANTA , ROUND 3, PICK 27, OVERALL PICK 90 OC | (6-3, 300, 5.0) | Texas A&M By Pro Football WeeklyNotes: Younger brother of Steve McKinney, who also went to Texas A&M and has started for the Colts since his rookie year in 1998. Steve surprisingly slipped to the top of the fourth round after being projected as a second-round pick. Seth was redshirted in '97 and has started every game the past four years. A freshman All-American in '98 and an All-Conference pick the last two years. Received considerable All-America notice in 2001, when he was a finalist for the Dave Rimington Award and was an Academic All-American. Also was on the Academic All-Conference team for the fourth year in a row.Positives: Very smart, durable and dependable. Always answers the bell and never seems to make a mistake. Excellent OL leader. Plays with his head on a swivel and is very aware. Handles the exchange nicely and gets into his blocks quickly. Gets good fits in the running game and understands blocking angles and position. Can get to the linebacker and block on the second level. Hustles and will get off the ground to make a second block.Negatives: Has average size, size potential and short arms. Is not a natural knee-bender. Lacks hip roll and explosion and great natural lower-body strength. Better against odd-man fronts than with a big man on his nose. Can get stalemated and overpowered at times. Will get bull-rushed and walked back by a big, strong stud unless he is very quick with his arms and gets under the defender's pads. Weight distribution and balance are a little off on some plays, making him vulnerable.Summary: A very good player who gets the most out of his talent but has some size and ability limitations. Will need some help with big nose tackles but has the potential to play in the NFL. However, like his brother, probably will not be a first-day pick and is not quite as athletic or powerful as his brother is.* Player biographies are provided by Pro Football Weekly.
