By Pro Football WeeklyNotes: Native of Bulgaria who served in the Bulgarian Air Force prior to coming to Fresno State. Played soccer and had never attempted a field goal or PAT prior to 2000, but the left-footed kicker made 9-of-16 field goals, including a 43-yard game-winner to beat Rice. Was 6-of-13 from 30-49 yards. In '01, was named first-team All-Western Athletic Conference and was a semifinalist for the Lou Groza Award. Made 23-of-32 field goals, including a 48-yarder, and 15-of-22 from 30-49 yards. Missed his only attempt of 50 or more yards. Made 23-of-30 field goals and all 43 PATs he attempted in '02, when he was first-team All-WAC and a finalist for the Groza award.Positives: Accuracy has improved each season, especially long accuracy. Has good to good-plus leg strength and doesn't seem to melt under pressure. Can kick off and normally gets good distance and hang time off the tee. Negatives: Is still very raw and hasn't had top coaching for his position. Is deliberate approaching the ball and will miss chip shots. Has a tendency to hook the ball from close range, but improved in that area in '02.Summary: If his approach, timing and accuracy improve, Asparuhov could be a find. * Player biographies are provided by Pro Football Weekly.
